Poppin Toast

My son Andrew is 14 and he loved this toast- without the funny faces!! It’s funny that it tastes very much like a pop tart except a lot healthier. Andrew happens to be the pickiest eater I know which doesn’t make him easy. For that reason, he makes a good taster as he is a challenge to please. Almost no family is immune to the influence of junk food marketing and because junk food companies make their food irresistible to kids healthier options should go for it too!

Poppin Toast

Serves one

  • 1 slice of whole wheat bread

  • 1 tablespoon of nut butter (Almond, peanut or sunflower butter work well)

  • ¼ Teaspoon Cinnamon or just sprinkle to taste

  • ¼ Teaspoon honey (brown sugar or sprinkles will add interest if you dare). It’s the equivalent of 2 grams of sugar

  • 3-4 pieces of fruit like pears, banana (optional)

Toast bread to your likeness. Smear on nut butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Lightly drizzle honey or sweetener. Top with fruit if desired. Serve with milk or water but not juice. This toast is great with breakfast or as an after sport snack.

Enjoy!!
